Functional and stylistic role of nouns -occasionalisms in the language of ukrainian periodicals at the beginning of the XXI century
Abstract
The article examines the use of nouns-occasionalisms in the language of media at the XXI century. The specific use of occasionalisms has been outlined on the base of print periodicals examples and explanation of their meaning has been made. It is noted that usually the studied vocabulary has a negative-evaluative nature. This article provides a brief analysis of Ukrainian linguists' studies on the functioning of the occasionalisms in the Ukrainian language. It has been concluded that nouns-occasionalisms are formed by using existing in our language words or phrases, and they often break the language norms; it has been found out that occasionalisms differ from neologisms by the number of features, in particular, neologisms are lexical units of language and speech, and occasionalisms are only speech ones; the author's presence is not essential for neologisms, but it is essential for occasionalisms and so on. It has been investigated that occasionalisms are used in different thematic groups, most often in the articles, which describe the political events in our country, relations between Ukraine and Russia, as well as events from the sphere of culture. It has been generalized that occasionalisms are used intentionally in many journalistic articles so that to give emotional and expressive colour to a text.
