Cognitive Approach for Learning English Grammar by Students
Abstract
The article examines the cognitive approach in formation students’ English grammatical competence. It is noted that the most of studies related to the communicative competence or communicative and cognitive, and cognition separately, i.e. perception with its structures and processes, in particular those associated with the perception of grammar were considered insufficiently. The essence of the cognitive approach is a direction of a learning process on solving such issues as perception, knowledge and understanding reality by a human; obtaining, processing, structuring, storing, releasing and using of knowledge; study and explanation of cognitive processes and mechanisms by which means an adequate human’s adaptation to reality is ensured. It is noted that for the formation of flexible cognitive skills it is necessary to create a variety of situations and tasks that stimulate both mental and verbal activity of students. It is proved that students are experiencing a rapid development of abstract, formal, logical, critical and creative thinking, which promotes a formation of foreign-language grammatical competence.
